Kolhapur District

Urban Cooperative Credit Societies Federation

Our History & Overview

A Journey of Trust, Resilience & Cooperative Growth

From a small flat in Shahupuri to a state-wide model federation. Discover how we united the cooperative societies of Kolhapur since 2000 to protect, serve, and grow together.

The Foundation

Established on 19 September 2000, our operations initially began from the building of Parshwanath Nagari Sahakari Patsanstha in Shahupuri until the end of 2005. As the Federation's activities expanded, founding President Shri Shankar Patil spearheaded the purchase of an 800 sq. ft. flat in Sai Plaza Apartment, gathering necessary capital through deposits from Parshwanath Patsanstha, Vasantrao Chougule Patsanstha, and other key members.

Standing Together: Advocacy & Protection

Protecting Our Officers

During an interim period, two recovery officers were tragically shot at by a borrower in Kodoli. The Federation immediately stepped in, bearing all their medical expenses. Recognizing the critical need to prevent such risks, we established the Kolhapur District Recovery Officers Association on 19/12/2012.

Result: Today, for difficult recovery cases, all recovery officers conduct operations jointly. Furthermore, we implemented a shared-officer model where one recovery officer is appointed across 4 to 5 small institutions, making it highly affordable and secure.

Raising Our Voice Against Injustice

The Federation has never shied away from defending the rights of its members. We have consistently united to ensure justice prevails in the cooperative sector.

  • When officers were fired upon, we closed all patsansthas in the district and organized a massive Morcha (protest march) to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police.
  • We led protests when borrowers illegally broke seals to forcibly reclaim properties under patsanstha possession.
  • We successfully opposed unfair contribution demands by closing all institutions and elevating the issue directly to the government.

Pioneering Initiatives & Growth

Accelerated Legal Recovery (Section 101)

In 2019, Dr. Mahesh Kadam (who had served in the Cooperation Dept. and was on deputation to the Bank Association) suggested that recovery claims of patsansthas be filed with the Bank Association to obtain orders via their Deputy Registrar. With the approval of President Shri Shankar Patil and all Directors, the proposal was submitted.

Dr. Mahesh Kadam remarkably secured government approval within just two months. Thanks to his ongoing guidance, the number of claims from patsansthas now exceeds those of banks. Hearings are conducted three times a week, resulting in recovery certificates being issued in a very short time, bringing immense satisfaction to our members.

Knowledge, Publications & Seminars

Since being recognized as an authorized training center in 2010, we have continuously organized seminars on crucial topics like income tax, recovery protocols, and government circulars. Recently, with the expertise of Chartered Accountant Shri Sunil Nagaonkar, the Federation published a highly useful policy handbook covering loan policies and monthly operational work. This essential guide was officially released by Guardian Minister Shri Prakash Abitkar.

25th Silver Jubilee & Ideal Patsanstha Awards (2025)

Recognizing that good work deserves appreciation, the Federation instituted the Ideal Patsanstha Awards. During our 25th Silver Jubilee Annual General Meeting in 2025, Guardian Minister Shri Prakashrao Abitkar presented awards across categories including: Three Ideal Patsansthas, Ideal Chief Executive Officer, Ideal Recovery Officer, and Ideal Guide. This initiative aims to continually motivate excellence within the cooperative sector.
